Question of the Day: Would you buy a right-hand drive car?

It’s well documented that I am not the greatest at driving manual transmission cars, I’m out of practice and generally uncoordinated. I also have two screws in my left heel and I will milk this excuse as long as I can.

With that said, I want a right-hand drive vintage Mini Cooper. I assume I will stall it numerous times, but I have delusions that I can drive it like the original “Italian Job”.

So dear readers, would you buy a right-hand drive car?

Give us your take in the comments section below. Like my high school history teacher always told me, “There are no wrong answers.”

  1. 16 years ago I bought a 1966 Jaguar 3,4 S ( or S-type) Manual+Overdrive.
    Right Hand Drive.

It took a bit to use left hand for shifting but now the only problems or drawbacks are lack of visibility when overtaking and getting out of the car a the tollgates to pay. And sometimes I still walk to the “wrong” door only to find there’s no steering wheel. But the looks and comments from people (even police) when they first see a driverless car are worth it.

  2. I have driven several right hand cars and was always surprised by how easy shifting is. I did find that one might have a tendency to drift left when driving. I presently drive a Morris Minor no highways but a lot of fun who’s in a hurry. Right hand drive….

  3. I recently bought a RHD 1969 Land Rover Series IIA Half-Ton Air Portable. In the time it takes to say that I can usually find and engage second or maybe fourth gear. Very entertaining.

  4. Absolutely! When I was younger I was a driver for a R&R star. I drove him around NYC in a RHD ’62 RR Sliver Cloud. At first I was terrified that I would make a mistake in judgement in the Manhattan traffic, but after a few weeks I felt just as comfortable as I did in any other LHD car.

  5. YES – because right hand drive is the law of the land for vehicles newer than 30 years of age from build date here in Australia. I grew up in the states with only left had drive vehicles. Since moving to Australia in 2017 – YES it took some time to get use too, but its like anything else, you do what it takes. I now have no problem with right or left hand drive cars.

  6. dont care for them a extremely good buy would be the only way of me considering one. as a former new car dealer, resale on a rh drive car of anything would be low compared to a l h drive.

  7. I’m Aussie I don’t have a choice🤣🤣
However controlling your wheel with your right hand is a hell of a lot easier then with your left America really needs to jump on board with the rest of the world right hand all the way

  8. I did!!! I bought a 1990 Fairway FL2 (the limo version of the London Cab). It is rather like having a puppy that everyone wants to see and as I continuously work on the suspension, it is such a fun ride. It is now my daily driver. With 78 hp I do not get there fast but I love driving it!!

  9. Yes, I’d buy an RHD car, or truck. Living in a port city, and working on the port, I’ve seen a number of grey market Asian/ Australian grey-market models, I’d like to have. The only problem is, visability.

  10. I live in France . 12 years ago I came here with a right hand drive landrover pickup which is our daily driver. We have a left hand drive pontiac . The main problem is you have to think which vehicle you are getting into. Right or Left is no problem.I would not want a ‘wrong ‘ side drive van without side windows for that would make visibility problems at junctions.

  11. I would love to have one, especially a Mercedes. Are they legal in the States and can you order one from a dealer?

  12. Without question. Especially for cars never imported as LHD. An exciting drive every time. I started with a 1962 3.8 MkII Coombs Jag, Bentley SII Fastback, several LRs and never hesitated since. Current: LR SIIa. Love it but may sell. No more room.
