It’s well documented that I am not the greatest at driving manual transmission cars, I’m out of practice and generally uncoordinated. I also have two screws in my left heel and I will milk this excuse as long as I can.
With that said, I want a right-hand drive vintage Mini Cooper. I assume I will stall it numerous times, but I have delusions that I can drive it like the original “Italian Job”.
So dear readers, would you buy a right-hand drive car?
Give us your take in the comments section below. Like my high school history teacher always told me, “There are no wrong answers.”
16 years ago I bought a 1966 Jaguar 3,4 S ( or S-type) Manual+Overdrive.
Right Hand Drive.
It took a bit to use left hand for shifting but now the only problems or drawbacks are lack of visibility when overtaking and getting out of the car a the tollgates to pay. And sometimes I still walk to the “wrong” door only to find there’s no steering wheel. But the looks and comments from people (even police) when they first see a driverless car are worth it.
Yes I wouldn’t have a problem with that.
I have driven several right hand cars and was always surprised by how easy shifting is. I did find that one might have a tendency to drift left when driving. I presently drive a Morris Minor no highways but a lot of fun who’s in a hurry. Right hand drive….
I recently bought a RHD 1969 Land Rover Series IIA Half-Ton Air Portable. In the time it takes to say that I can usually find and engage second or maybe fourth gear. Very entertaining.
Absolutely!
Absolutely! When I was younger I was a driver for a R&R star. I drove him around NYC in a RHD ’62 RR Sliver Cloud. At first I was terrified that I would make a mistake in judgement in the Manhattan traffic, but after a few weeks I felt just as comfortable as I did in any other LHD car.
NO!
RHD om my XKSS Jag was good for me
YES – because right hand drive is the law of the land for vehicles newer than 30 years of age from build date here in Australia. I grew up in the states with only left had drive vehicles. Since moving to Australia in 2017 – YES it took some time to get use too, but its like anything else, you do what it takes. I now have no problem with right or left hand drive cars.
dont care for them a extremely good buy would be the only way of me considering one. as a former new car dealer, resale on a rh drive car of anything would be low compared to a l h drive.
I’m Aussie I don’t have a choice🤣🤣
However controlling your wheel with your right hand is a hell of a lot easier then with your left America really needs to jump on board with the rest of the world right hand all the way
yes no problem driving one like that
UES, ey’v had a couple, yet Prefer the “TRACKSIDE” Right Side ShifteR as well🏁gF☮️
No.
I did!!! I bought a 1990 Fairway FL2 (the limo version of the London Cab). It is rather like having a puppy that everyone wants to see and as I continuously work on the suspension, it is such a fun ride. It is now my daily driver. With 78 hp I do not get there fast but I love driving it!!
Yes, I’d buy an RHD car, or truck. Living in a port city, and working on the port, I’ve seen a number of grey market Asian/ Australian grey-market models, I’d like to have. The only problem is, visability.
My Morris Minor was right hand drive. Wish I still had it!
Why not? I have driven on both sides and it is fun!
Yes, if it was a JDM Nissan GT-R or pre-war Lagonda, Invicta… you know.
Like putting the glove on your right hand and trying to throw with your left. NO.
I live in Australia and I want to buy the 300SE in your article if it is for sale
I live in France . 12 years ago I came here with a right hand drive landrover pickup which is our daily driver. We have a left hand drive pontiac . The main problem is you have to think which vehicle you are getting into. Right or Left is no problem.I would not want a ‘wrong ‘ side drive van without side windows for that would make visibility problems at junctions.
Yes, brought a TVR Chimaera Over the last year tons of fun my wife though doesn’t like being in the suicide seat lol
I would love to have one, especially a Mercedes. Are they legal in the States and can you order one from a dealer?
Without question. Especially for cars never imported as LHD. An exciting drive every time. I started with a 1962 3.8 MkII Coombs Jag, Bentley SII Fastback, several LRs and never hesitated since. Current: LR SIIa. Love it but may sell. No more room.
