BMW opens Art Cars exhibition

The exhibition runs from May 7 to June 14

-

No less than nine BMW Art Cars will be exhibited at the AES steel plant in Esch-Sur-Alzette, Luxembourg from May 7 to June 14. “BMW Art Cars 9 out of 19” is an exhibition focused on the iconic collection of BMWs customized by well-known artists.

BMW Art Cars were a collaboration between iconic artists of the era and BMW, wherein the BMWs were customized and became rolling works of art. Most notably, Andy Warhol’s 1979 BMW M1 featured the artist applying 13lbs of paint in 28 minutes to convey speed.

“I attempted to show speed as a visual image. When an automobile is really traveling fast, all the lines and colors are transformed into a blur,” the artist said in explanation of his work.

Following cars will be exhibited:

#1 ALEXANDER CALDER                         BMW 3.0 CSL

#3 ROY LICHTENSTEIN                            BMW 320

#4 ANDY WARHOL                                    BMW M1

#6 ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG                BMW 635 CSi

#8 KEN DONE                                            BMW M3

#10 CESAR MANRIQUE                            BMW 730i

#12 ESTHER MAHLANGU                         BMW 525i

#13 SANDRO CHIA                                    BMW M3 GTR

The exhibition runs from May 7 to June 14 at Metzeschmelz – Usine d’Esch Schifflange (AES).
