In 1927, Chevrolet expanded its light-truck lineup with a new Capitol AA Series LM model, which was offered as a factory panel delivery, factory stake bed, or as a chassis ready for other bodywork. The Pick of the Day is a 1929 Chevrolet Capitol Series LP 1-ton panel truck (click on the link to see the ad) being advertised on ClassicCars.com by a dealership in St. Louis, Missouri.

The dealership notes that the truck was donated in pieces to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles in the mid-1990s and in 2004 was purchased in that same condition, with the new owner investing more than $50,000 in the truck’s assembly and restoration, which in 2008 included the new bodywork by Wheels of the Past.

The truck is being offered for sale after 16 years with the same owner.

The Wheels of the Past bodywork includes the half-moon sliding window design. The windshield is a tilt-out design, and the dealer points out the absence of windshield wipers. The truck has a brown and tan interior with custom rear bench seat and blue-painted dashboard. The headliner is wood.

The truck, built on a 124-inch wheelbase, was repainted in Trianon Blue over black wings in 2017, the dealership adds.

The truck was among the last to be equipped with Chevy’s 171cid 6-cylinder engines, the dealer notes, and also one of the last 130 1-ton Chevrolet trucks to get 4-wheel drum brakes. The engine, rated at 35 horsepower when new, is linked to a 4-speed manual transmission.

“Are you a small business owner looking for a unique way to advertise your company? What about a rarely seen Chevrolet Capitol Series LP panel truck that has huge side panel real estate to advertise your business in the most possible unique way!” the selling dealership suggests

“Plus, you have to love and adore the half moon sliding side windows!”

“Chevrolet rolled out a new one-ton series truck in 1928, the LP series. This example is one of the final 130 examples to receive four-wheel drum brakes in 1928. Another new feature on this series was a four-speed manual transmission.”

The truck has a single tail lamp (on the driver’s side) and rides on wood-spoke wheels.

According to the advertisement, “The standout features are the dual wood benches that line the cargo area. If a classic truck with a large cargo area that looks like a custom-made paddywagon sounds appealing, you should make some time to check out this Chevrolet 1-ton Panel Truck.”

The truck is offered for $34,900. To view this listing on ClassicCars.com, see Pick of the Day.

  1. That is NOT a ’29 model, it is clearly a four cylinder 1927 model. The 1929 truck was the LQ six cylinder model and the first of the ‘stovebolts.’
