Florida Governor DeSantis helps Barrett-Jackson raise $1.76 million to support relief efforts in Ukraine

Day 2 of the auction was highlighted by charity and support

-

On Friday evening at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction Florida Governor Ron DeSantis helped raise $1.76 Million to support relief in Ukraine.

A 2009 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake from the George Shinn Collection and a 1986 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible Indy Pace Car from Mark Pieloch’s American Muscle Car Museum Collection sold for $1 million to Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports.

George and Megan Shinn and Mark and Tetiana Pieloch each added $100,000 to the hammer price. Craig and Carolyn Jackson as well as Steve and Janie Davis matched the donation, which was also duplicated by John Staluppi, John Rosatti and Sam Pack, with Michelle Mauzy adding $50,000. Additional donations brought the total to $1,760,000.

The $1.76 million donation will benefit Franklin Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse and humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine.

“The generosity of Barrett-Jackson’s customers overwhelms me,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Freedom is priceless, but it’s not free.”

  1. Explain to me what Governor DeSantis had to do with this other than show up? Why did you make this more of a political stunt than a worthy cause for Ukraine. I’m disappointed!

  2. Well said, John Patten. I was just wondering the same thing. Scanned the article twice more to see why the governor was name-dropped to begin with. Not seeing any mention of what the heck he had to do with it, I scrolled down to see if there was an email for the writer to ask him that and saw your comment. Inquiring minds want to know.

  3. Agh, just how did DeSantis help? The article makes no mention of that.
Mr. Castro, did DeSantis pay you to write that misleading headline???

  4. Echoing the first 6 comments above. There was no need to politicize this article by inserting Florida’s Governor into this story. He did absolutely nothing to warrant a mention in an otherwise honorable endeavor. He has nothing to do with cars, charity, or empathy in general.

  5. How does DeSantis fit in here? Did he donate the $1.76 million himself? What a disappointing name drop. We come here to read about cars and get away from the political nonsense, epecially when the praise is seemingly 110% unwarranted.

  6. I’m glad I am aware of this. I was going to make the mistake of voting for DeSantis. That has changed. I used to post cars from Barrett-Jackson on my car pages on two social media networks. One of which had more than 2 million views daily. Of course, that has changed too.
