Mercedes AMG art cars promote hip new clothing collection

British skateboard and streetwear brand Palace and Mercedes-AMG have unveiled a second Capsule Collection of clothing, showcased by a quartet of one-off Art Cars. 

“The trousers, hoodies, jackets, T-shirts, vests, as well as beanies and caps are stylistically oriented towards a ‘motor mechanic’ look,” according to the news release. “The collection celebrates this style as everyday fashion that is not just for functional purposes.”

The 23-piece collection goes on sale March 25 at Palace’s four flagship stores as well as online.

On sale beginning March 25, 2022, 7:00 a.m. EDT, all pieces will be available at Palace’s four flagship stores as well as online at palaceskateboards.com.

‘Tiger London’

The four Art Cars each have a 7-layer “fade paint” finish with a “color-changing effect.” The SL 63 also has a special body.

The cars are the A 45 S1 “Tiger London,” with a large head of a white tiger on the hood; the SL 63 “Sunset LA” painted in bright yellow and deep red to represent “the perpetual Californian summer; the GT 63 “Neon Fade New York” offering a black and neon yellow contrast between city streets and bright lights, and the G63 “Space Horse Tokyo” with a galloping horse in tribute to the fantasy culture “so popular in Japan.”

Ferrari confirms SUV on the way

Ferrari has released a darkened image of a vehicle bearing the Prancing Horse on its nose and this brief announcement:

“A new, and very different Ferrari is coming. A car whose bloodline can be traced back through our 75-year history of innovation, evolution and uncompromising performance. Stand by for a genuine game changer. All will be revealed later this year.”

Lotus ready for Emira First Edition orders

While its online configurator already is live, Lotus says it will begin accepting orders April 8 for its Emira First Edition sports cars, which will be the final petroleum-fueled vehicles from the company. Lotus adds that it will unveil its first all-electric car, the Type 132, on March 29.

Lotus says the Emira First Edition cars will be available this fall, with the base model coming in 2023. The cars will be powered by a mid-mounted and turbocharged 360-horsepower 4-cylinder engine from AMG and will be linked to a paddle-shifted 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. 

First Edition cars get 20-inch “ultra-lightweight” V-spoke alloy wheels; brake calipers in red, black, yellow or silver; special badging and other features, including body and interior colors. 

The cars can be equipped with special option packages, including Lotus Drivers Pack, Design Pack and Convenience pack.

Pricing starts at $85,900.

Maserati shows new Grecale SUV

Calling it the “Everyday Exceptional” vehicle, Maserati has shown its new Grecale sport-utility vehicle that launches with internal combustion or hybrid powertrains and, in 2023, adds a fully electric model. The SUV will be available in a variety of trim versions and launches with a 300- or 330-horsepower hybrid 4-cylinder setups or with a 530-horsepower V6. 

Maserati reveals electric Folgore

Maserati says it will be the first Italian luxury car brand to produce full-electric models, starting with the Folgore, a grand touring car scheduled to enter the marketplace in 2023. 

Maserati says the car “will offer cutting-edge technical solutions derived from Formula E (racing), superb performance, comfort and elegance, all typical of the Trident.

The company adds that its new Grecale sport-utility vehicle will be available in an EV version a year later and that all Maserati models are scheduled to come in electric options by 2025. The company said it will go all-electric by 2030.

Deus hypercar to debut at NY show

Based in Vienna, Austria, Deus Automobiles GmbH says it will unveil its electric hypercar concept at the New York International Auto Show, which opens April 24. The company also revealed the cars name — Vayanne, which is says is pronounced vy-ahn and translates as Vienna.

Deus says the car’s styling is by Italdesign and that Williams Advanced Engineering is responsible for “ground-breaking innovation and product development” technologies.

Jaguar finds second life for EV batteries

Jaguar Land Rover has launched a program with energy company Pramac, to reuse electric-vehicle batteries in zero-emission charging units for use in areas where power supply is limited or not available. Solar energy would be used to generate power to be stored in the used automotive batteries, which would power an average  family home for a week on full charge.

The system was tested during the recent Formula E test sessions in the UK and Spain, where it was used to power Jaguar’s equipment.
