McCormick auction passes $6.6 million, led by 1967 Ghia 450SS

The 72nd staging of the Palm Springs collector car event sold 267 vehicles

-

McCormick’s bidder-friendly collector car auction, held for the 72nd time in Palm Springs, California, reached $6,655,369 in sales, with 267 of 394 vehicles hammered sold.

The highest seller was an Italian/American collaboration, a 1967 Ghia 450SS coupe that sold for $180,200 (including auction fee).   The attractive coachbuilt 450SS coupes and convertibles were penned by famed Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, who based them on the Plymouth Barracuda.

An estimated 52 of these hand-built cars were produced by Ghia, and were sold exclusively through a Beverly Hills, California, importer.
