The Revs Institute (aka Collier Collection) in Naples, Florida, will host a joint meeting of the World Forum for Motor Museums and the National Association of Automobile Museums from November 9-12 with the theme, “The Future of the Past is Collaboration.”
The World Forum recently concluded a 5-day online seminar series on such topics as “The Racing Car as Art and Artifact,” “The Evolution of the Japanese Motor Industry,” “Obsolete Materials in Vehicle Restoration,” and even, “Creating a Museum Mobile App.”

The World Forum meets every other year with a mission “to provide an international forum for meeting and exchanging knowledge with those who share a passion for motoring heritage, putting a global perspective on the issues and challenges facing motor museums throughout the world.”
‘Driving After Sundown’ at AACA
A “soft opening” is planned for February 21 with the formal debut March 1 for a new exhibit, “Driving After Sundown: The Evolution of Headlights” at the AACA Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
“From the first days of the automotive era in the 1880s, drivers (and passengers!) wanted to see and be seen as they motored about at night,” the museum notes. “They also needed to ensure that the glare from their lights would not blind oncoming drivers. They wanted to stay on the road and avoid anything that would ruin their trip. It turns out motoring lighting challenges are harder to solve than one might think.”
Thus the new permanent and hands-on interactive exhibit at the AACA, which includes “lighting effects from the days of candles, oil, and acetylene to today’s modern lighting.”
Audrain benefits from concert
John Oates and Nashville guitarist Guthrie Trapp will perform March 26 at the JPT Film & Event Center in Newport, Rhode Island, in a concert to benefit the Audrian Automobile Museum, the museum has announced.
In addition to performing, Oates and Trapp will share behind-the-scenes stories into the songwriter’s world.
Oates, of Hall & Oates fame as well as in his solo career, is a Grammy Award-winninng writer, producer and performer. Trapp spent several years playing for country artist Patty Loveless.
Special events this weekend
The California Automobile Museum in Sacramento opens its next “rolling exhibit” — “The Art of Lowriding” on January 30. The exhibit runs through May 1.
The Blackhawk Museum in Danville, California, reopens this weekend.
“Reclaimed Rust: The James Hefted Collection,” featuring “rock-star horsepower” and the custom cars of the frontman for Metallica, will be featured January 20-31 at Le May – America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, Washington.

The Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia opens a Best of Britain 2022 exhibit on February 5. The exhibit runs through February 20 and will feature more than a dozen British automotive marques.
The Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan, stages its inaugural Winter Motoring Meet featuring vintage snowmobiles on February 5.
After the success of the inaugural program in November, the British Motor Museum stages another Quiz Night on February 8 at Gaydon, UK. The event is open to teams of up to 6 with five rounds of questions on automotive, music and movie topics. The evening includes time to tour the museum and a dinner meal.
The third annual Bootlegger’s Ball is scheduled for February 12 at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum in northeast Indiana. The event, done in partnership with Auburn’s Eckhart Public Library, celebrates the passage of the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ending prohibition.
“Pint With The Past” returns to the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan, on February 12. The event features craft-brewed beer tasting amid the museum’s car collection, and with live music by a contemporary blues band or by an “easy-listening” guitarist. There is a special reduced admission fee for those arriving as designated drivers.
The Canadian Automobile Museum in Oshawa, Ontario, hosts Third Thursday lecture series for February on the 17th with “The Death and Legacy of Sam McLaughlin – Looking Back After 50 Years” presented by Samantha George of the Parkwood National Historic Site.
Lord Montagu will share the history of his local Totton to Fawley railway in a special presentation February 19 at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, England. The presentation, which also will feature filmmaker Nick Lera, launches the museum’s spring lecture series.
Formula 1 racing with a family focus will be featured during the “half-term” school break at the British Motor Museum in Gaydon, UK, February 19-27.
The Mustang Owner’s Museum in Concord, North Carolina, launches its car-show calendar on March 27 with a “Fords on Sunday” event.
The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles and the Ferrari Club of America stages the Enzo Ferrari Cruise-In from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on February 27.
The spring lecture series at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, England, continues April 23 with Alan Chandler discussing petroliana collecting.
The LeMay Collection at Marymount in Tacoma, Washington, will offer Driver’s Ed: Model T Experience events May 14, June 11, July 9, August 14 and September 11.
A second wave of vehicles arrives September 22, 2022, and run through May 14, 2023, in “The Allure of the Extreme” supercar showcase at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.
