“A special milestone deserves a special car,” Porsche points out, and thus the 2022 Porsche 911 Edition 50 Years Porsche Design model, of which only 750 will be available worldwide.
The car celebrates the 50th anniversary of Porsche Design, founded in 1972 by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, son of Ferry, grandson of the original Ferdinand Porsche. It was F.A. who designed the now iconic Porsche 911.
“Based on the 911 Targa 4 GTS, the new model is limited to 750 units globally,” Porsche announced, “and features special aesthetic elements inspired by the first product his new company designed: the Chronograph 1.”

Like that first Porsche-designed timepiece, all 750 of the anniversary sports cars will be finished in black. The cars also will have satin platinum-hued features including the Turbo S wheels, the Targa bar, and “Porsche Design” logos.
In the cabin, each car gets a numbered dashboard badge, with a signature reproducing that of F.A. Porsche on the center console lid. Sport-Tex seat centers will have a checkered pattern in black and a shade called “Cool Gray,” and headrests will be embossed with a “50 Years Porsche Design” logo.
Sport-Tex seat centers with a checked pattern in Black and Cool Grey, headrests embossed with the 50 Years Porsche Design logo and a center marker on the GT Sport steering wheel in Slate Grey are also special to this model.
Standard equipment includes 18-way adaptive sport seats, slate gray seat belts and a special Sport Chrono with a red second hand.
Power will be provided by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-6 rated at 473 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque and linked to all-wheel drive via an 8-speed PDK transmission. A 7-speed manual transmission with locking rear differential will be available.
Buyers also will receive a 911 Edition 50 Years Porsche Design chronograph “true to the design of the original Chronograph 1 first released by Porsche Design in 1972” and engraved with the same number as the buyer’s vehicle. The car and watch are sold together for an MSRP OF $195.850.
In addition, a limited run of 500 of the Chronograph 1 1972 will be offered at $7,700 each. Porsche says, “This version of the watch remains completely unchanged from the original in terms of size and design, and features a solid titanium case back with the historic Porsche Design logo.”
