The Pick of the Day is a 1940 Ford pickup listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Plymouth, Massachusetts, who says it took two donor vehicles and nearly two years to build, and is now offered at an asking price of less than half the overall investment.
“This is an award-winning restoration of a 1940 Ford pickup truck,” the listing says. “It has been fully restored as close to factory condition as possible.”
The Ford’s restoration involved rust removal, sheetmetal replacement and the refinishing of exterior chrome trim – not to mention a respray in vivid Turquoise Metallic, as showcased in the nearly-90-photo gallery with the ad.
In addition to the body work, the build emphasized attention to mechanical details, leveraging original parts wherever possible and substituting replicas where necessary. The seller notes that the sideview mirrors, cab floor and cargo bed were replaced with replica parts.
The flathead V8 engine is not original but comes from a newer vehicle in the Ford family – namely, a 1950 Mercury. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted three-speed manual transmission.
The braking system and suspension were modernized, an electric fan was added, and overall roadworthiness is described as good, aside from inoperative speedometer, fuel and voltage gauges.
Pre-war Ford pickups carried sedan-like exterior designs from the cab forward, including a two-piece grille with vertical slats, teardrop headlight bezels and rounded front fenders. In fact, essentially all full-size class Ford vehicles at the time shared similar aesthetics, including passenger cars and utility vehicles.
“This is an amazing truck in excellent condition,” the seller states. “I hate to sell this dream truck, but it is time for me to move on to my next project.”
As a turn-key entry into collector vehicle ownership, this Ford truck might present a viable option for those who might not have the time, resources or budget for a long-term do-it-yourself project.
In satisfying numeric alignment, the seller is asking $40,000 for this ’40 Ford.

Nice truck, although it’s a 41 Ford
Love the Art Delco styling of the early 40’s.
I also thought it was a 41 ford, truck is worth 35K at best one went on BAT a lot nicer for 42K. These just don’t bring that kind of money without being a resto mod. I know I’ve two.
41 has a different hood nose like this one, 40 has narrow one like the 40 cars
