Youngsters across the country regularly race around short oval tracks in small motorsports machines known as quarter-midgets, so named because they’re about a fourth of the size of the adult-size midget racing cars.

But even if your child excels at quarter-midget racing, it’s unlikely you’ll let he or she climb behind the wheel of one of seven 1:4 scale models the Amalgam Collection is creating of the Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 EQ Performance in which Lewis Hamilton set the fastest pole position lap in Formula 1 history while winning a seventh consecutive championship in 2020.

Besides, the car is a model, not an operating vehicle, and at more than $35,000, it likely won’t be going into any child’s playroom.

The scale model version of the car is 4-feet in length and, says Amalgam, “perfectly detailed.”

Should you not be up to affording the $35,101 price of each of the seven quarter-scale versions, the Amalgam Collection also offers the car in 1:8 and 1:18 scale sizes, as well as a full size replica of the car’s steering wheel.

“Every W11 model is hand-built and assembled by small teams of craftspeople across the Bristol-based company’s global workshops in collaboration with the Memento Group and with the assistance of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, who supplied original CAD designs and paint codes,” Amalgam said. “Every model has undergone detailed scrutiny by the team, features a certificate of its authenticity, and is delivered mounted on a carbon fiber or an acrylic base, with a polished metal plaque, protected by an acrylic dust cover.

Amalgam said it also has two additional quarter-scale models in development and will do five examples each of the Valtteri Bottas and George Russell cars.

“The Russell edition will be detailed with the livery that the #63 car carried at the Formula 1 Rolex Sakhir Grand Prix 2020,” Amalgam said. “With the recent news that Russell is to partner Hamilton next season, interest in the 23-year-old British driver is soaring, and Amalgam have already received a deposit for the first model in this edition from a client in China.”
