If you’d like to stand out in the crowd with a truck that’s both common and unusual, the Pick of the Day should suffice: a 1972 Chevrolet C10 pickup with a Portuguese accent.
That’s because this head-turning truck was built at a Chevy plant in Brazil, where it is no doubt quite familiar, but in the US, quite different-looking.
It’s a good example of a number of vehicles that were produced by US and European automakers in the South American nation that often varied stylistically from those in their home markets. Cool Brazilian Volkswagen models come to mind.
This Chevrolet is just familiar enough to cause double takes, similar to a domestic C/K but with enough styling differentiation to make you go, “Huh?”
“This 1972 truck made in Brazil has a unique look,” according to the Palmetto, Florida, dealer advertising the Chevrolet on ClassicCars.com. “This truck would get a ton of attention at car shows because apart from headlight buckets, which look like standard Detroit 1962-1966 Chevy truck items, everything else appears to be unique to the Brazilian model, including all of the badging.
The pickup has been substantially restored, the dealer says, looking like something you might have seen driving around Sao Paulo back in its day. The Chevrolet’s interior and mechanical parts also have been accurately redone.
“Our C10 has a correct rebuilt and restored 155-horsepower 250-cubic-inch straight-six engine that came standard from the factory that is a marvel to look at,” the dealer says. “You will rarely see any of the 250 cubic-inch straight-six engines in a ’70s vintage Chevy truck anymore.
“It’s refreshing to see it and in all looks just the way it did from the factory with its factory blue paint on the engine block and valve covers, power brakes, factory black air-cleaner assembly, stock exhaust and carb, and all sitting in a very detailed, painted, and clean engine compartment.
“It fires up, idles nicely and pulls strong with the three-speed manual transmission.”
The asking price for this South American Chevrolet is $28,997.
