We run into several reasons for frustration as we search through the ClassicCars.com Marketplace looking for candidates for possible display as the Pick of the Day.
The Pick of the Day for today presents an example. It’s a 1989 Ford Mustang GT hatchback that, according to the advertisement placed by the private seller, has been driven only 1,778 miles since it was brand spanking new.
What we learn about the car from the advertisement is that it is in “pristine collector/investment grade condition” and, with the exception of the time it took to drive those 1,778 miles, has spent its “entire life” in climate-controlled storage.
“One hundred percent completely unmodified stock vehicle,” the seller notes, adding that the original window sticker is still attached to the passenger-side window.
“The Cabernet Red exterior paint is near perfect with no scratches, nicks, dings or imperfections,” the Ballston Lake, New York, seller promises.
“The interior is in perfect condition with absolutely no wear. The tweed cloth seating is color coordinated to the exterior.”
The car has a 5.0-liter high-output V8 engine, automatic transmission, power steering, Tracton-Lock rear axle, and “handling” suspension.
For the 1989 model year, the 5.0-liter HO V8 was rated at 225 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque.
It has the Power Equipment Group, Premium Sound System, air conditioning, and AM/FM/cassette tape deck audio system.
“Other features include leather-wrapped steering wheel, articulated sport seats with power lumbar support, factory tach, temperature gauge, voltmeter, and oil pressure gauge,” the seller continues.
“The original GT aluminum wheels are in perfect condition and include wheel locks and still have the original tires also in excellent condition.”
The seller notes that the 1989 model year marked the 25th anniversary of the Mustang and was “the last year with no airbag steering wheel.”
But what the advertisement doesn’t inform is why the car was driven only 1,778 miles in 32 years.

I see that the paint has not fell off like it did to mine… twice !!
I owned a 92 Summer Edition mustang but after also owning a 1970 Mach 1 the Fox Body just didn’t catch my fancy. Nothing like an early model mustang. I guess the Fox bodies just have to grow on you. I would not pay $ 41, 500 for any Fox Body mustang. Just my opinion.

We loved our Mustang GTs and Camaro Z28s. I had an 84 Z28 and my buddy had an 85 GT in university. We drove them to Fort Lauderdale for spring break. Upon graduation, I traded for an IROC-Z ragtop and he went for a new Mustang GT ragtop. We had a blast in those cars! This car would be an awesome throwback for anyone who loved this era. I am of course more Camaro than Mustang but this is an beautiful car that any fan of the Fox body Mustangs would love to own. Given the mileage, you are basically buying a new car but 30 years old! I think the price is well worth it.
I love Fox Body Mustangs, however I want one that I can drive without fear of tarnishing an undefiled original with such low mileage. After all, that’s what these cars are built for is to drive and enjoy! The Fox-body is a true driver’s car.
I would be really interested to know the back story on this car. Why such low mileage? Why didn’t anyone ever drive it and enjoy it?
I have a 1988 GT same color as the one in photo..The red paint was “sun Damaged” because of a Ford Paint Defect..Should have been recalled..
