Lemons sets its calendar of 2022 events

Our weekly roundup of car show news and notes

-

Celebrating the “oddball, mundane and truly awful” of the automotive world, the Concours d’Lemons has announced its 2022 schedule, as have the Lemons Rally and 24 Hours of Lemons racing program.

The concours schedule includes four events — March 5 on Amelia Island, Florida; June 4 at Greenwich, Connecticut; August 22 at Seaside, California; and a date yet to be announced in September in Detroit.

“With 21 races, six rallies, and four Concours d’Lemons car shows, Lemons gives oddball cars and their enthusiasts a broad, rust-strewn playing field,” Lemons organizers reported.

The rallies operate under the banner of “Why break on track when you can break on the side of the road?”

For 2022, those rallies are scheduled for March 4-6, the Southern Friend Heaps from Mobile, Alabama, to Cedar Key, Florida; April 21-24, the Rocky Mountain Breakdown, based in Denver; July 15-17, the Rust Belt Ramble, from Detroit to Buffalo, New York; August 5-7, Hall On Wheels California Rally based in Sacramento; September 30-October 2, the Fall Fail-lage Rally based in Boston; and November 8-12, the great River Road Lemons Rally from New Orleans to St. Paul, Minnesota.

The 24-hour races for $500 cars are February 5-6 at Barber Motorsports Park, March 12-13 and December 3-4 at Sonoma Raceway, March 26-27 at NOLA Motorsports Park, April 9-10 at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex, May 28-29 at Thunderhill Raceway, June 4-5 and September 10-11 at High Plains Raceway, June 11-12 at New Jersey Motorsports Park, June 25-26 and October 8-9 at Gingerman Raceway, July 16-17 at Oregon Raceway Park, August 6-7 at Thompson Speedway, August 13-14 at Autobahn Country Club in Illinois, September 24-25 at NCM Motorsports Park in Kentucky, October 1-2 at Buttonwillow Raceway, October 15-16 at The Ridge in Washington, October 29-30 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, November 4-6 at MSR Houston, December 10-11 at Road Atlanta, and an event in April or May at a track yet to be determined.

McLaren celebrated “a decade of supercar innovation and success” at the Goodwood Members’ Meeting this past weekend, noting that its first customer delivery of the first 12C model was done in 2011.

“Led by the production 12C – the car that marked the arrival in 2011 of McLaren Automotive in the modern era – some of the most memorable high-performance, luxury cars launched in the past decade celebrated McLaren’s achievements with laps of the Goodwood circuit,” McLaren Automotive said in a news release.

“Lining up alongside the 12C were a McLaren P1 – the world’s first hybrid hypercar – the extreme, track-focused McLaren Senna, a GT, two convertibles – a 675LT Spider and 720S Spider – and the most recent McLaren Ultimate model, the Elva. Completing the celebration parade was McLaren’s all-new, high-performance hybrid supercar, the Artura.”

McLaren also did a photo shoot of customer racing cars and track safety cars it has produced.

The company also offered a reminder of the Pure McLaren Festival scheduled to take place November 11-14 at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas.

The 2022 schedule marks a return to the traditional dates for the Goodwood events after what Goodwood host, the Duke of Richmond, termed “a challenging 18 months” of cancellations and postponements and schedule shuffling because of the coronavirus pandemic.
