The Pick of the Day, a 1998 Ford Mustang GT convertible in Rio Red, would have been right at home in a small-town Fourth of July parade earlier this month. Offered for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Weatherford, Texas, the Mustang shows fewer than 85,000 miles on the odometer.
When the fourth-generation Ford Mustang debuted at the end of 1993 as a 1994 model, it took styling in a new direction compared with the previous Fox-body generation, leveraging a more-rounded design. The project had been codenamed “SN-95” internally at Ford, and the body style endured through 2004, experiencing a refresh about mid-way through 1999.
This Mustang convertible arrived just before the refresh and is described by the seller as largely original in configuration, right down to the AM/FM/CD player with cassette tape deck. The car’s odometer shows only 84,803 miles, relatively low mileage for its 23 years.
“I have owned it since 2003 and have put 47,000 miles on it,” the seller states.
The drivetrain of a GT-spec 1998 Mustang pairs a 4.6-liter V8 and 5-speed manual transmission, with output of 225 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. Setting the GT apart from base-model Mustangs were stiffer suspension, dual exhaust system and larger 16-inch wheels outfitted for better performance and handling.
In the case of this Mustang, factory-spec originality was put to the side in just two aspects: The car’s stock intake and exhaust were replaced with aftermarket components – the seller says that exhaust note sounds great. Recent maintenance has included replacement of the tires and the battery, and there are no outstanding needs mentioned.
“A/C blows cold and car is in excellent mechanical condition,” the listing reads. “Great car to own and drive.”
In the ad’s photo gallery, the seller shows both top-up and top-down pictures, highlighting the car’s “dual cockpit” interior design layout and cloth bucket seats.
There are plenty of top-down days left in summer 2021, so perhaps this Mustang GT should make its way to your local Main Street. The seller is asking $14,500 for the parade-ready pony car.
