Mecum scored a solid inaugural collector car auction in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a total result of $21.1 million and 539 of the 660 offered vehicles hammered sold, a rate of nearly 82 percent, the auction company reports.
The Tulsa sale was held June 11-12 at the River Spirit Expo, joining 11 other collector car auctions on Mecum’s 2021 auction calendar, which also includes annual sales focused on vintage motorcycles, antique tractors and farming gear, and Road Art memorabilia.
Leading the results were three Ford GT coupes, one 2005 and two 2006 models, marking the continuing auction successes of the “instant collectable” sports cars that have frequently led Mecum sales in recent years.
A 2006 GT, fully optioned and showing just 7,000 miles, topped the auction sales list at $330,000 (all results include auction fees), followed by the 2005 GT from the Elkin Brothers Collection that reached $302,500, and the other 2006 GT, wearing Gulf Blue and Orange Heritage livery, that sold for $280,500.
“Other top sales included a varied mix of sports, muscle and utility vehicles, with a 1957 Ford Thunderbird F-Code claiming the fourth spot at $203,500 and a 1970 Mustang Mach 1 Twister Special fastback coming in sixth at $165,000m” Mecum said in a news release. “Two Corvettes – a 1963 split window coupe and a 1961 convertible – sold for $176,000 and $159,500, respectively, taking the fifth and seventh spots in top sales.”
The 14 vehicles from the Elkin Brothers Collection, including the second-place Ford GT, all sold during the auction for a total of $1.17 million.
