The Goodguys Rod & Custom Association returned to Scottsdale, Arizona recently for its 11th FiTech Spring Nationals showcase at WestWorld. Hot rodders and car enthusiasts from around the country came together to enjoy the sunny weather and thousands of muscle cars, classics and customs on display.
The event is typically held in early March but was pushed to mid-April for health-safety reasons due to Covid-19. Despite the date change, Goodguys welcomed more than 2,000 registered vehicles throughout the weekend.
I was excited to join in on the festivities as Arizona works to get back to some sort of “normal.” Masks were required indoors, but you could take them off outside and breathe in the fresh air – or burnt rubber from the tire-smokin’ burnout contest.
Despite underestimating the Arizona sun and getting a slight sunburn, I had a wonderful time meeting fellow enthusiasts and admiring the cars, especially the ones in the Builder’s Choice section right outside the gigantic WestWorld tent.
Take a look at the Builder’s Choice Top 10 hot rods and custom classics:
1941 Ford Custom
1954 Buick Century
1959 Chevy Impala
1955 Chevrolet Nomad
1965 GMC pickup
1963 Corvette

1950 Plymouth Business Coupe

1957 Chevy Nomad
Just before the event, Goodguys announced a new partnership with Chevrolet Performance in which Chevy will recognize two very special builds with the Chevrolet Performance Builder of the Year award. The two cars given the award were the 1965 GMC pickup featured above in the Builders Choice list and a 1935 Ford pickup pictured below.
Goodguys is in Raleigh, North Carolina, the weekend of April 23-25 for its 6th Griot’s Garage North Carolina Nationals.
