There are cars that stop traffic, and the Pick of the Day figures to be one of them. It is a 1970 Volkswagen Bug that, to say the least, has been, as the selling dealer puts it, “highly modified.”
Being advertised on ClassicCars.com by a dealership in La Verne, California, this bug is a rolling work of art.
According to the advertisement, the vehicle was the work of a “select few of the Pacific Northwest’s premier auto artists” and “masterfully delivers intrigue and driving thrills simultaneously.”
Let’s start with the thrills, in part offered by the open-air driving experience and in part by go-kart-tight steering and “plenty (of) power” from a “dual-port VW engine.”
There’s a roll cage over the back-seat section of the car, stainless steel running boards, polished “super-light” racing wheels, and a Kiki surfboard-inspired interior with a gauge cluster like that in a Pontiac GTO Judge. The car’s odometer shows just less than 84,000 miles.
And then there’s the car’s exterior artwork.
So, do you drive this car or do you exhibit it in an art museum?
For $13,900, you get to make that choice.
