Before World War II, Chevy held the No. 1 spot as Detroit’s top truck seller, and as the war ended, they picked back up right where they started when they resumed civilian truck production. In 1947, Chevy released its “Advance Design” pickups, which were longer and lower than its pre-war trucks.
The Pick of the Day is a 1953 Chevrolet 3100 “Advance Design” pickup that has undergone a “very correct restoration,” according to the Tucson, Arizona, dealer advertising the truck on ClassicCars.com.
“This is a driver-quality truck that you can get in and enjoy reliably, not a trailer queen you would be scared to get a chip in the paint or a ding in the bed,” the dealer says in the ad.
The truck underwent restoration more than 30 years ago and has some patina from age, but “mechanically the truck is in excellent shape and is a pleasure to drive.”
“The top end was recently overhauled and the engine was resealed,” the seller says. “The brakes were rebuilt and the truck stops great with no pulling. Shifts through the 3-speed manual transmission beautifully. Starts right up with ease and idles right away even from a cold start.”
We don’t get many details on the engine in the listing, but the stock engine for this truck would be a 216cid inline-6 that generates 85 horsepower. You can listen to the engine run in the walkthrough video done by the dealer below.
Finished in Mariner Blue, this Advance Design Chevy features a yellow pinstripe outlining the top of the cab, vent windows on the doors, custom removable wood top rails on the bead, exterior sun visor and spotlight.
“The body is very solid and rust free with the exception of a small hole in the front of both rockers,” points out the dealer. “You can only see them on a lift from underneath.
“The wood bed was replaced and is in very solid shape, but the finish has worn off in areas and would need to be sanded and refinished to show quality.”
Inside the cab, the brown interior appears to be in good shape, having been refinished just a few years ago. There are a few minor wear signs, and unfortunately, the radio doesn’t work and will need some love to get it back playing, the ad notes.
The asking price for this good-looking pickup is $27,500.
