Aston Martin, distillery launch joint SUV project

18 DBX Bowmore Edition vehicles to be produced

-

Don’t drink and drive, of course, but apparently it’s fine with Aston Martin for customers to buy a DBX Bowmore Edition SUV designed to celebrate the automaker’s partnership with the single-malt whisky distillery.

Only 18 such vehicles, produced by Aston Martin’s Q division, will be made and delivered to their owners during a special visit to Bowmore’s facilities in Islay, Scotland.

“The Aston Martin and Bowmore brands share the same vision of creating timeless beauty and a lasting legacy, loyal to their heritage but also embracing new methods and this is reflected in the DBX Bowmore edition,” Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s chief creative officer, is quoted in the news release.

“Strips from the copper whiskey stills are inlaid into the side strakes and Bowmore Tweed accents the interior, Q by Aston Martin has once again created a beautiful, limited edition Aston Martin.”

According to Aston Martin, “The Bowmore DBX is enrobed in a striking paint color, named Bowmore Blue, an existing archive color which has been brought back exclusively by Q by Aston Martin for this car.

“Customers will have the option to choose an alternative exterior paint color should they so wish. Xenon Grey paint, which displays a blue metallic fleck throughout, will be offered as an additional exterior option. Bowmore-branded copper inlays using copper from the original whisky still have been used to accent the side strakes of the DBX, as a nod to the traditions maintained by the company.”

Also optional are black brake calipers and either Obsidian Monotone or Copper Tan Metallic/Obsidian duotone interiors.

The 18 vehicles also feature polished copper cupholders as well as sill plaques made of recycled copper from the original Bowmore still.

Each vehicle comes with a selection of specially designed Q accessories such as a Bowmore tweed picnic blanket and leather holdall.

The delivery event will start in Edinburgh, from where the owners of the 18 Bowmore DBXs will travel on a 170-mile route before taking the ferry to Islay, where they can hand-fill their own bottle of a 39-year-old, specially selected Bowmore straight from the cask.

Pricing of the 18 vehicles was not announced, but deliveries are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021, Aston Martin said.
