Crate engines are popular choices with those building hot rods or doing resto-mods out of classic cars. Mopar, the aftermarket parts division of FCA North America, has unleashed what it says is the most powerful production muscle-car engine ever for builders and enthusiasts — the 807-horsepower Hellcrate Redeye 6.2-liter Supercharged Hemi V8.
And in addition to that horsepower, the engine is rated at 717 pound-feet of torque.
Mopar says the engine, built with stronger internal components and running to a 6,500-rpm redline, is equipped with a larger, 2.7-liter supercharger that provides 14.5 psi of boost. The engine runs on 91-octane fuel, the company says, and is designed for pre-1976 street and off-road vehicles (although Dodge installs the engine in the Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye, Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye and Challenger SRT Super Stock).
The price for this potent engine in a crate? $21,807.
“With the addition of this new supercharged Hemi, Mopar now offers five Hemi crate engines with a range of 375 to 1,000 horsepower,” Mark Bosanac, head of Mopar service, parts and customer care in North America, is quoted in the company’s announcement.
“All Mopar crate engines are quality-tested and factory-backed to deliver proven performance to our enthusiasts.”
Mopar notes that each engine is dyno testing for 42 minutes before being shipped. The engine assembly comes with supercharger, throttle body, fuel injectors, coil packs, water pump, front sump oil pan and flexplate.
Among beefed-up internal components are forged alloy steel crankshaft, induction-hardened crank-bearing surfaces, 5150 alloy gun-drilled camshaft, forged high-strength alloy pistons, powder-forged connecting rods and ultra-high tensile fasteners, revised valve springs, optimized oil pan and windage tray, single-groove collets for valve-stem stability, and a 100 percent increase in piston-cooling jet flow.
Mopar says it also offers special flywheel and clutch components for those installing the engine, as well as a front-end accessory drive kit.
Prices for other Mopar crate engines range from $6,550 for a 5.7-liter, 375-horsepower unit to $29,995 for the “Hellephant,” a supercharged 426cid V8 pumping out 1,000 horsepower.

There is in fact an 800HP Prius with a Dodge Challenger Hemi engine and Ford Truck transmission. Featured on Jay Leno’s Garage. The Prius is “called” “Burns Rubber and Gas”. The engine is rated at 727HP but the builder brought it up to 800+HP.
