Langen Motorcycles, a new British brand, will unveil its first machines September 23-26 at Blenheim Palace as part of the Salon Privé concours d’elegance, the company announced.
The Langen Two Stroke is a “ground-breaking, two-stroke, road legal motorcycle,” the company said, adding that it “defies convention by using the latest two-stroke, 250cc, V-twin engine and will attack your senses through the sound, smell and sheer thrill that only a lightweight, two-stroke can deliver.”
Powering the bikes is a two-stroke engine produced for Langen by Vins, a company based in Maranello, Italy. Langen says the engine, which has a 14,500 rpm redline, was “born from an ‘extra-curricular’ passion project from members of the Ferrari research and development department.”
Langen says the engine produces more than 75 horsepower and 33 pound-feet of torque and is the result of five years of development.
“A combination of fuel injection, ECU-controlled oil injection, carbon-fiber reed valves and electronic exhaust valves enable the engine to produce eye-watering performance figures, yet within an environmentally friendly set up as a highly tractable, road legal motorcycle,” the company claims.
“Power-to-weight ratio is the key to the Langen Two Stroke performance, with a design philosophy of simplification and lack of weight. The result is the Two Stroke weighs just 114 kilograms (251 pounds). This gives an incredible power-to-weight ratio of 660 hp/ton – more than most supercars.
Langen said its motorcycles are handmade from large-diameter, laser-cut aluminum tubing, with bonded and machined connection points. It uses Ohlins front forks and British K-Tech rear shocks. Bodywork including fuel tank is carbon fiber, with gold-leaf detailing.
‘The company has been founded with the aim of producing motorcycles with a simplicity and purity of days gone by, like the ‘Ton-up boys’ and their Cafe racers – yet pushing the limits of modern technology,” Chris Ratcliffe, Langen founder and designer is quoted in the company’s announcement.
“My dream has always been to create a small piece of British motorcycling history. To be able to launch this special motorcycle under a completely new brand really is a dream come true.
The aim is to continue to push boundaries and create more interesting bikes, which we hope will really please people.’
Langen plans an initial build of 100 British-road-legal bikes starting in the summer of 2021. It also plans to build 150 more in 2022 that will be homologated for other markets. Base price for each bike was announced as £28,000 ($36,320).
