Holmes Solutions shares a video that shows a series of crash-test collisions between some vintage vehicles and similar but new ones.
Crumple zones and air bags really do make a difference.
Viewer warning: This video is full of not-pretty crashes

Always great Article’s to read and watch!!
That’s why I don’t own a 59 Chevy. No perimeter frame and not a unibody, either. Poor design.
tests are unrealistic ..cars very seldom hit headon ..99% are side or rear end crashes and not at 50 or above crashes are in city streets and town driving and parking lots ..
They aren’t hitting head on. It’s offset which is the most common deadly car crash.
Nice article but why ruin a 1959 chevrolet to make your point.
I would like to see any new car go against my 1948 Pontiac Silver Streak.
Such a shame to wreck such a neat car as your Ponti … but I’m sure if you offered it they’d be happy to use it? Reality is the modern cars are definitely more survivable and they need to be with the volume of untrained idiots running on the “it’s always someone else’s fault” thinking that we allow on the road now. Most of us more experienced road users are probably surprised at the direct head-on comparison all the same.
These tests are VERY realistic! With all the people texting etc. , head Ins very likely on two way roads !! I’ve been driving 60 yrs , 40 yrs as a comercial driver. I’ve seen a lot !!
Made me sick to watch. One less 1959 Chevrolet
I drive a 68 Charger, a big 4000 pound American car. Honestly I would rather be in a wreck in a Honda Civic. My chances would be better.
Hi Larry,
Thanks for the tag, Holmes Solutions does do a lot of crash testing but unfortunately this isn’t a Holmes Solutions test. We have some really cool videos online like: https://www.holmessolutions.com/nigel-latta-crash-test-media/ that you would be welcome to accredit to us.
