With 2020 taking all of humanity for an ever-turbulent roller-coaster ride, the thought of escaping civilization to get off the grid seems more appealing than ever.
Picture the solace of a dirt road to a cabin retreat where such modern-day nuisances as WiFi and cell-phone signals are cut out. If any classic vehicle is going to get you there, it’s a Toyota Land Cruiser.
The Pick of the Day is an unmolested and very original 1982 Toyota FJ60 Land Cruiser advertised by a Dallas, Texas, private seller on ClassicCars.com. For being 38 years old, this FJ carries itself with dignity and presence thanks to what appears to be a good body, well-kept interior and well-sorted mechanical underpinnings.
The SUV has the original 2F engine, which is said to run smooth after a rebuild only 100 miles ago. The transmission is a 4-speed manual, and the seller says that the clutch is tight.
The Land Cruiser name and the models that wear it have proven themselves with the ability to withstand the test of time. Land Cruiser heritage dates back to 1951 when the model debuted with Jeep-like capabilities, and it has since evolved into a modern sport utility vehicle. Even today, the Land Cruiser carries on as one of the last of its kind as a rugged body-on-frame vehicle.
The Pick is a J60 Land Cruiser that was part of the generation from 1980 through 1990. In an ongoing effort of improving creature comforts, the J60 brought features like A/C, a rear heater and an upgraded interior from the prior model. It was met with success both in the marketplace and in competitive off-road events.
While many vintage Land Cruisers have been restored to the point of never seeing a dirt road again, this one actually looks like a candidate for off-roading that could be used and enjoyed without feeling guilty.
The seller states that the vehicle has been used as a daily driver, but it wouldn’t take a great deal of effort to get it to show condition, if desired.
“All lights, turn signals, horn, park brake work perfect with recent inspection,” the seller says. “All the gauges work and there is no smoke at all.”
The seller is asking $11,900 for the Land Cruiser, and the chance to explore uncharted trails and find new adventures.

Hi there, is this car available and how would we get it to Toronto area? Not sure I can even cross the border at this point.
Some additions when looking at the pick of the day ad.
The engine was not rebuilt, it appears to be just a valve job.
Also, the A/C is not working and needs a headliner. There is some minor rust.
The bedlinen coating on the roof may pose a real problem when removing.
Lastly, it does have a quester of a million miles and there was no mention of any suspension work ever done.
These are really wonderful and bullet proof as attested to by the current mileage, so be prepared to put some serious coin into it to minimally return it to 100% functionality and especially to preserve it. Ie: paint, A/C. Clutch, brakes, shocks, fix seat tear ( and the foam really wears out) I loved my 88 and hated my 91…..
