The rights to the first production 2020 Toyota Supra was hammered sold for $2.1 million on Saturday evening at the annual Barrett-Jackson collector car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, with all proceeds going to the American Heart Association and the Bob Woodruff Foundation.
The winning bidder will receive the first production Supra, which will bear VIN 20201 and a carbon-fiber badge indicating its significance, sometime in the spring.
Toyota unveiled the much-anticipated Supra, which is the first Supra to roll off the line in two decades, this week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The curtain was raised on the Barrett-Jackson car about an hour later.
The Supra shown at the auction was painted a matte Nocturnal Black – a sort of gunmetal gray – and equipped with the red mirror caps that will only be offered on the 1,500 Launch Editions that Toyota plans to produce. The first production Supra will be painted in the same color scheme.
“The Supra is back and it’s better than ever,” Barrett-Jackson CEO Craig Jackson said during the unveiling.
Jackson said the Supra will be the fastest production Toyota ever. Specs provided by Toyota said the car will be powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 capable of 335 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. That will take the car from zero to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, Toyota says.
Vintage Supras, particularly the fourth generation, have become collector cars in recent years, especially after several were featured in the Fast and Furious movie franchise. Some have fetched more than $120,000 at auction.
Barrett-Jackson also auctioned off the first production 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Craig Jackson bought it for himself, paying $1.1 million that will be donated to charity.
Only 335hp/365lbsft, and no manual? Exactly who is this car aimed for, wannabe secretarial pool posers and the kids of rich but worried parents?
High school kids can squeeze more power than this out of 100,000+ mile turbo fours, and some of the fourth gen Supras make close to 600 street-able horses with aftermarket help; saw one at a show with over 1000hp dyno slips for an engine based around the original, stock Toyota block.
This thing’s not even competition for the Ecoboost 4cyl Mustang, much less V8 ‘Stangs, Camaros, Challengers, and a host of other sports/performance cars that are undoubtedly much less spendy.
Supras used to be hot challengers to Corvettes. What happened?

yup….got that right ! I gave up on looking at cars for their high horsepower but rather for their intrinsic good looks or beauty. I just picked up a ’95 BMW 840 CI, and it is a FRIGGIN’ REAL BEAUT ! and best of all, it cost me the equivalent of the sales tax on a new Toyota !

This supra was geared for a charity auction which brought in much needed money for its cause, if you are trying to compare it to horse power look else where it’s a GT not a Racer duh…and with its BMW 6 turbo engine it’s a steal $55k compared to the Z4 at $70k
You must be kidding, your auction is not geared for the average car guy!! Anymore,it’s all hi tech now, no more hot rods,muscle cars etc that’s what you built your business on.an I know you must follow the money just to stay in business.but with your pricing, i’m Gone and so are many of friends
335 HP is not nearly enough HP to even compete with most all sport cars out there today. Nice looking car but no Balls! Sorry…
Supra? What happened to Nissan, they stock has gone drastically down hill, and they can’t keep up with Toyota, they need to bring back the number one selling car ever in America, as it was fast and furious for its time, the 240Z, wake up Nissan!…
