Restored and modified into a custom jewel, a 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Areo Coupe will be sold at Barrett-Jackson’s 47th annual Scottsdale, Arizona, auction to benefit cancer research at the Translational Genomics Research Institute in Phoenix.
The Monte is the first resto-mod in the Project Prestone series, named for its sponsor best known for antifreeze and coolant products. The performance car inspired by NASCAR racing is painted black with yellow details, Prestone’s colors, and has new or upgraded interior, paint, suspension, brakes, exhaust, transmission, sound system and graphics package.
The Chevy will be sold on the block in the early evening on January 18 with all proceeds going to the Barrett-Jackson Cancer Research Fund at TGen, established in 2010 by auction chairman and chief executive Craig Jackson in memory of his father, Russ, and brother, Brian, whose lives were cut short by cancer.
As with all Barrett-Jackson’s signature charity sales, 100 percent of the winning bid goes to the worthy cause, with the auction company waiving all fees.
“We are proud to once again donate a special collector car for charity and have the entire hammered price going to support the incredible work being done at TGen,” Jackson said in a news release.
The Monte Carlo SS was unveiled last summer at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Connecticut, and since then it has undergone a complete transformation into a refined resto-mod for driving and display.

During the past eight years, Barrett-Jackson has donated numerous cars for auction to benefit TGen, and has raised nearly $2 million for TGen’s cancer research. Total giving for all charitable causes by Barrett-Jackson over the years tops $95 million.
