2017: The top stories of the year

2017 was a tumultuous year for the collector car community, a year in which many cherished vehicles were destroyed by hurricane-spawned floods and by all-consuming fires.

But with such devastation there also was the delight of collector cars on display, at shows, concours and on the open roads, and the joy of those simply enjoying the pursuit of their passion and the preservation of artifacts of a way of life.

At the end of each year, we try to share what we think were the top stories of the past 12 months. Here are the stories we identified for 2017:
