Iconic American classics of the 1950s and ’60s, plus a modern British exotic, led the bidding last weekend during Mecum’s collector car auction in Louisville, Kentucky. Overall sales came to $7.6 million with 310 vehicles going to new owners in the three-day event.
The results were led by a 1968 Shelby GT500 fastback that hammered at $90,500 (Mecum results do not include auction fees), followed by a 2007 Bentley Continental coupe at $80,000.
Chevrolets filled the next four top-seller slots, with a 1968 Camaro RS Z28 hitting $77,500, a 1963 Corvette split-window coupe for $75,000, a 1957 Bel Air convertible also at $75,000 and a 1969 Corvette 427 coupe at $74,000.
A 1964 Studebaker Avanti R2 landed among the top sellers, at $68,000, bolstering the rising values for this previously underappreciated classic.
