Marques such as Lotus, March, Tyrrell, Hill, Williams, Penske, Ferrari, Shadow and Brabham, cars from the 1967-1984 golden age of Formula One, will be in the Formula One race group August 18-21 at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports at Laguna Seca.
Among the cars entered is a Lotus 79 that Mario Andretti used to win the 1978 World Championship. The example running belongs to Duncan Dayton and is set to run against Greg Thornton in his Lotus 77 and against Chris Locke’s similar car.
Other highlights include Chris Farrell in his Rothmans-liveried March from 1982 against ex-Arturo Merzario March 761 of Scotland-based Irishman Tommy Dreelan, alongside the ex-Jackie Stewart March 701 of Richard Dean.
The car from Alan Jones’ championship-winning season, a 1980 Williams FW07, is entered by Zak Brown. This chassis is best known for Jones’ wins in France and Britain, plus the non-championship race in Spain.
Also set to run is a Shadow, created by Don Nichols, plus the ex-John Watson Penske PC4 and the 1975 Hill GH1.
In addition to historic Formula One cars, cars on the track will range from early pre-war cars like a 1916 National AC and 1927 Bugatti T37A Grand Prix, to the ground-pounding Can-Am and historic Trans-Am cars.
In celebration of BMW’s 100th anniversary, the automakers North American division is set to have a historical display on site showcasing a range of significant race cars and street models.
