Loads of General Motors muscle cars from Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Buick and Pontiac will be featured among some 2,000 collector cars set to run over the block during Mecum’s 29th annual Original Spring Classic from May 17 to 21 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.

By the numbers, Mecum said it so far has consigned 96 Corvettes, 56 Camaros, 41 Chevelles, 26 Pontiac GTOs, 13 Oldsmobile 442s and eight Buick GSs.

Leading the GM charge is one of the Holy Grails for Bowtie fans, a 1969 Corvette L88 convertible (Lot F149). This dragstrip beast is equipped with a 427/430 horsepower big block with closed-chamber aluminum heads, Muncie M22 “Rock Crusher” four-speed gearbox, 4.56 Positraction rear and heavy-duty brakes.

Most of the special-order L88s were destined to become track cars only, but because this one was ordered with an optional heater, it’s apparent that the original owner did not intend to restrict it to just racing. Mecum places a pre-auction estimated value on the rare Corvette at $600,000 to $800,000.

Another special Corvette coming to auction is the 1962 Styling Car known as the “Gold Corvette” (S170.1) because of its unique prototype paint shade of Firemist Gold, designed to mark the 50th anniversary of Chevrolet. The Vette is valued at $150,000 to $200,000.

Other special Chevys include a pair of 1969 Yenko 427 Camaro coupes (Lots S154 and S200) and a 1970 COPO Chevelle SS454 LS6 coupe (S147) in Hugger Orange.

Muscle-car Oldsmobiles include a 1970 442 W-30 (Lot F204) in Sherwood Green, while Pontiacs are highlighted by a 1971 GTO Judge convertible (Lot S179). Three Buick GS Stage 1 convertibles, two 1970s (Lots F146 and F147) and a 1971 (Lot F148), are offered from the Mike Guarise Collection.
