One of the greatest champions of auto racing, Sir Stirling Moss OBE, will be an honored guest at the second annual Arizona Concours d’Elegance at the historic Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix on January 11, 2015.

The British racing legend will attend the intimate Arizona Concours with his wife, Lady Susie Moss, presenting entrants and spectators with the opportunity to meet him as he tours the scenic landscaped grounds of the Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired Biltmore Resort, where 80 select vintage automobiles will be on display.

Moss, an active octogenarian who travels the world as an acclaimed diplomat for historic motorsports, competed in vintage racing events until just a few years ago. He still provides on-track demonstrations of some of his most famous race cars and regularly takes part in classic car rallies.

Moss began his remarkable motorsports career in 1948 at the age of 18, driving a Cooper 500 that he purchased with his winnings from horsemanship competitions. His exceptional driving skills soon earned him coveted spots among the world’s greatest racing teams.

During his professional driving career that ran through 1962, Moss competed in 529 races and won 212 of them. He eventually drove 84 different brands of automobiles in a wide variety of sports car and grand prix classes and events. Although he is recognized as one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers ever, Moss never won a world championship, but came in runner up four times.

Perhaps the most memorable race of Moss’s tremendous career was his epic run in the 1,000-mile classic Mille Miglia of Italy in 1955 driving a streamlined Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. With journalist Denis Jenkinson serving as navigator, Moss drove the German engineering marvel at an average speed of 97.96 mph on public roads to win the event far ahead of the competition, and setting a course record that was never equaled.

Moss retired from professional racing in 1962 after a near-fatal crash at Goodwood, after which he turned to his business career with the same enthusiasm and competitiveness as he did on the track. These days, much of his global traveling and personal appearances are as brand ambassador for Mercedes-Benz Classic.

The Arizona Concours d’Elegance, a premier event that serves as the start of the famous Classic Car Week in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area, benefits Make-A-Wish Arizona, the founding chapter of the national organization that grants wishes for children facing life-threatening medical conditions.
